At Randy’s Electric we have many ways to save you money with your use of electric devices within your home or business in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. And as we all know saving electricity is good for our pocketbooks and our environment. The first thing to think about is that the power company you have sends you electricity every day, and along with it they send you “spikes.” They try to send electricity to you at a constant 125 volts per line or 250 volts for your bigger devices. But they are not able to get it consistent because the farther you are from the transformer the less the voltage. It starts at 250 but is soon down to 240, and they put another transformer before it gets down to 215. all users should fall within these boundaries. The other thing they send are spikes-or surges. So instead of 250 volts perhaps for 1/10th of a second it jumps up to 280 or 300. This is bad for all your equipment! Refrigerators, freezers or anything with a motor burns up 30% faster than if the electricity was consistent. It also damages electronic equipment like flat screen TV’s or DVD players. This is not a theory, it’s a proven fact. We at Randy’s Electric have a surge protector that can remove the spikes and surges, for only $300- installed.
But now there is a better solution! A power conditioner is a device that has been working in industrial settings for years and is a proven technology. It can not only remove the spikes, but it can also improve your power facot to .98 or .99. Most homes in the Twin Cities area run at about .77 power factor. That means that about 1/4 of your electrical use-power you paid for-was wasted! by installing a power conditioner you can make your electrical use almost 100% efficient! I have an Ecoquest Rx that we can install in your home or you can buy it from us and the normal payback time is 1-2 years!
The second thing to consider would be going to LED lighting. This means replacing your light fixtures with new ones, but we all need to update our fixtures anyway. This can reduce your lighting power usage to almost 25%.
Third, you could change all your bulbs to the compact florescent. I have not had much luck with this. I have replaced many bulbs in my home and they seem to burn out quickly, so I haven’t experienced much savings from this.
